FOREIGN RIGHTS

"Liels un mazs" foreign rights cataloge 2023
LIELS UN MAZS is an independent, award-winning and family-owned children’s book publisher founded in 2004, based in Rīga, Latvia. Since the very beginning, our focus has been on publishing contemporary picture books and quality fiction created by the most talented Latvian writers and illustrators.
We also publish a great deal of poetry for children, because we love the way poetry plays with language and invites children to play along with it. We publish books to develop children’s artistic and literary taste and to enrich their reading experience.
The books published by 'Liels un mazs' create new worlds through their language and visual imagery. The local – stories that we inherited from grandma and those we grew up with like mother’s milk – mixes with the distant and different, playing with boundaries. Our books combine the known with the unknown, to create connections stronger than those that we otherwise know in our daily lives.
We also publish a list of thoughtfully selected translations from the best children’s authors, including Piret Raud, Kristin Roskifte, Barbro Lindgren, Ulf Stark, Sven Nordqvist, Maria Parr, Carll Cneut, Kitty Crowther, Janosch, André Letria, Jacques Vriens, Shaun Tan, Edward van de Vendel, Andri Snær Magnason, Romana Romanyshyn, Andriy Lesiv, and Kęstutis Kasparavičius.
In 2014, we successfully launched the sale of rights, and now our books have been translated into Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Swedish, and other languages.
In 2022, after being nominated for five years in a row, 'Liels un Mazs' has won the BOP Prize for Europe.
